The Groesbeck I.S.D. ESL Department will host a Multicultural Family Event on April 23rd from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Enge Washington Elementary School. The event will give families an opportunity to share elements of their culture or ethnicity through storytelling, food, games, arts, and many other things that make cultures unique.
One of the most excellent reasons for us to organize a multicultural event at our school is the opportunity it offers our students, teachers, and families to encounter one another in celebration of what we all bring to the community. It's an occasion to have fun while strengthening the academic connections to students' knowledge, background experiences, and ways of viewing the world.
The objectives of the event are:
• To educate students, families and school staff about the various cultures represented within the school community
• To build social connectedness among students, family members, school staff and community partners
The Groesbeck Public Library will be joining the school. They will provide resources for the language programs that are available and story times and events. Baylor School of Modern Language and Culture will be joining us as well. Tracey Jones will bring several students who are bilingual in English/Spanish and English/Chinese. The Elementary GT department will be putting together a display of research projects completed by ESL students who participate in the program.
Come and enjoy an array of FREE activities, games, food, student showcases, and more. For more information contact Holly Black, ESL Coordinator at (254) 729-4619

ATTENTION 6TH GRADE PARENTS: Your child will need vaccinations for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Students all across Texas will need a TDAP and a Meningitis (MCV) in order to register for 7th grade. If you have already done so, please turn a copy of your child’s vaccination record into Nurse Flowers prior to the end of school. Also, since most 6th graders will be getting a physical for sports, parents can schedule the vaccinations at the same time as the physical (let your provider know this when you make the appointment). If you have any questions, please call Jenny Flowers, RN/School Nurse at 729-4185.
SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS
To the Parents of All Seniors:
If your child is planning to attend college after graduation, they will need an updated Meningitis booster shot in order to enroll. The booster is given every five years. If you have any questions, please call Jenny Flowers, R.N./School Nurse at 729-4185.
Should you receive contact from outside companies regarding school fundraisers, please remember that if it is a valid school fundraiser, they will have an approved fundraiser form from the district. Fundraiser events are also listed on the district calendar. Questions please call Darla Wurtz at 729-4146.
September is Attendance Awareness Month and as a part of that recognition, the students of Groesbeck ISD Kindergarten through 12th grade participated in a poster contest to bring awareness to the importance of school attendance. Students submitted posters to illustrate the theme “Every Day Counts”. The top three posters from each grade level were submitted to the District Office, and a panel of outside judges chose the 1st place winner for each grade level. The winning posters will be displayed on the district’s website through the school year. So watch each month for different grade levels being displayed.
Congratulations to each of these students, and a warm thank you to everyone who participated.
