BIG CONGRATULATIONS To our February Teacher of the Month, Art Teacher, Desirae Settlemyer. Mrs. Settlemeyer was born in southern Louisiana but her father moved her to Texas as fast as he could. Her high school years were spent in Leander, Tx just north of Austin. She graduated from Leander High School, a large 5A/6A high school then earned her Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'em!).
She says, "Groesbeck was my first official teaching job. I would only move to this area if I were hired at Groesbeck High School. Wouldn't you know it, the day after I told my husband that, there was an opening for a high school art teacher at Groesbeck High. I was hired in the 2006-2007 year and have now been teaching for nearly 18 years."
The colleagues that voted for her said “she’s able to get kids interested in art, encouraging them to enter their works in contests, giving kids a creative outlet with lots of hands-on projects; she goes above and beyond trying to get students active in VASE and academic UIL; She is just amazing; She goes above and beyond for her students; She amazes me with her technology skills; She always does great with my SPED kiddos. I could go on and on; She’s ALWAYS extra and always makes decisions based on what is best for her students; She is an exceptional educator; Students love her class and she works with our athletes and others to be successful.”
