Mission Statement:

It is the mission of GISD Sports Medicine to offer the highest quality athletic training services possible at a secondary school setting. We ensure that a competitive edge is maintained while keeping the players’ health and safety at the forefront. In doing so, it is our responsibility to recognize a variety of athletic injuries and comprehensively manage the student athlete's return to play.

What is an Athletic Trainer?

“AT’s are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals, who are under the allied health professions category as defined by Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions (National Athletic Trainers Association, 2014).”

Licensed Athletic Trainers work under the direction of physicians and collaborate with a multitude of other health care professionals to form a complete and comprehensive health care team.
